PERCEPTION AND EXPRESSION; the quest of our generation.
In a world where creativity flows like an endless river, we find ourselves awash in a sea of expressions, each one a mirror reflecting our perceptions. But what do our lives say about the lenses through which we view the world? With every passing day, a new symphony of songs and screenplays emerges, their heartbeats pulsating with love's tender cadence. Yet, if we pause to scrutinize the creators behind these tales of love, how many can honestly profess that their own lives resonate with the very love they narrate? And how many of us, the eager consumers, truly open our hearts to embrace the profound messages they convey?
In this realm inhabited by beings with the power to channel their thoughts and emotions into words and images, why, then, are we still divided, mired in hatred, greed, and pretense, so often unkind to our fellow human beings? We've all encountered a book or watched a video that left us believing we had glimpsed the path to transformation. But too often, time sweeps away the wisdom we've gathered. Some, however, clutch these insights a while longer, daring to become authors or creators themselves, delivering the same message with a personal touch. Yet, for some, this becomes another facade, an attempt to express what should have been internalized.
In the age of YouTube, a vast chorus of self-proclaimed gurus overwhelms us, and choosing one path amid the cacophony is a challenge. Listening to their words, we discover that the core message remains the same—a message we've encountered on our own journey. This eternal renewal of motivation raises questions: Do we fail to internalize the positivity we encounter, or does it dwell within, obscured by layers of negativity? Is our perception of life inherently pessimistic, hindering the assimilation of positivity?
As I ponder these questions, I recognize patterns in my own life. Procrastination has been my steadfast companion, fueled by negative perceptions that have curtailed my growth. Blame was placed on external forces, but introspection reveals that the keys to unlocking these dormant areas of life reside in the chambers of perception.
Writing, my cherished sanctuary, grants me an intimate look into my own perception. Poetry and blog posts flow from my pen without meticulous planning; I embrace the blank canvas and allow the words to flow freely. For within the art of writing, I discover the nuances of my perception, the ebb and flow of my emotions, and the potential to reshape my world through the alchemy of words.
In the intricate fabric of our lives, I often find myself bewildered by the stark contrast between the positivity with which I view some aspects and the clouded perception I hold towards others. It's as though I've spent years hiding these negative viewpoints beneath a rug, only to realize that it's time to uncover them and face the filth that has accumulated in my perception.
Let's revisit the very essence of perception – the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through our senses, or the way we regard, understand, and interpret the world around us. In my introspective moments, I delve deep into the labyrinth of my own life, where it's easy to critique the flaws in others' perspectives while failing to recognize the shadows that obscure my own view.
For a while now, I've embarked on a personal journey to rewire my perception. I can't claim to have completely achieved this transformation, but each day unravels new layers of my preconceived notions about what's good or bad, my self-imposed limits, my likes and dislikes. The ongoing process of dissecting my life and understanding how my perception has been wired is nothing short of a profound odyssey. Perhaps, one day, I'll proudly declare that I've attained a heightened and elevated perception across most, if not all, aspects of life.
Now, let's shift our gaze to expression – the action of unveiling one's thoughts and emotions or the emotions conveyed through a mere glance. I'd like to propose that expression is also the outward manifestation of our individual perceptions. Many of us have mastered the art of portraying a facade, concealing our true feelings. I confess that I've been guilty of this too, believing that my authentic perception would be unwelcome. However, it's a risky gamble, for sometimes, our concealed perceptions are mistaken. If we dare to express ourselves, we may illuminate those concealed corners of our perception, offering a chance for understanding and healing.
It's undeniable that our modern world is increasingly dominated by expression, with a surge in readily available channels for individual expression, like the vast realm of social media. Anyone can share content and find an audience. However, while many creators meticulously filter their content to project a certain image, consumers often absorb these offerings without filtering what they consume. In this era, endless dopamine hits flood our senses, creating legions of information addicts. Yet, who can we blame for this phenomenon? The emergence of social media brought tremendous benefits, and it's hard to fault those who indulge in its offerings, as I myself once succumbed to mindless hours of scrolling.
This is our world, a world brimming with expression, yet the art of perception often lags behind. The challenge lies in redefining our relationship with the information deluge, understanding that true transformation comes not just from expression, but from the profound reevaluation of our perceptions, cleaning out the hidden corners of our minds and embracing a more authentic view of the world.
In the grand play of our lives, we, the fortunate children of this generation, have indeed experienced a world of opportunities previously unimaginable. But, could this abundance of ease and comfort ultimately dull our perception, impacting the depth and authenticity of our expressions? Or, might we choose to channel this privilege into a transformative force, becoming the generation that raises its perception to unparalleled heights, birthing creations never before fathomed?
I believe every individual, gifted the precious treasure of life, should seek their unique form of expression. Yet, it's vital to intentionally nurture and enhance our individual perceptions, for through our expressions, we cast ripples of energy into the world. Our perception, the wellspring of this energy, deserves our utmost care.
As we navigate the labyrinth of life, let us cherish and nurture our perception. It's astonishing how kindness and encouragement flow from us when someone we love is in need, revealing our well of empathy and understanding. However, when we find ourselves ensnared in darkness, these very qualities can become elusive, necessitating the helping hand of others. Imagine if we could harness the boundless reservoir within us, equipping ourselves to face our battles while extending aid to others. What if we could synchronize our perception, not merely reacting to external stimuli, but living in harmony with a heightened and fortified perspective? In a world shrouded by the clouds of loneliness and mental health struggles, this would be an extraordinary way to live.
It took time for me to grasp that we often perceive the world as we are, not as it truly is. Our perception acts as a lens, through which we individually experience life. For some, this lens may be dirty, foggy, or cracked, distorting their view of the world. Imagine the relief when they trade their old, tarnished lenses for new, pristine ones. I am on a journey to acquire a fresh, clear lens, a perception through which I can explore and experience life to its fullest. If you too feel the need for a new lens, I welcome you to embark on this profound journey together.
With warmth and hope,
Fred Agaba
