Unearthing untold endings; A call to finish what we start.

In the quiet moments between the falling snowflakes and the imminent closure of the year, I find myself contemplating the web of unfinished tasks that we weave in our lives. It’s a reflection on the ceaseless pursuit of an elusive finish line, a line often etched within the recesses of our minds a line we believe holds the key to connecting all the dots of our existence. Yet, as I stand on the precipice of a new year, I am choosing a different path, one that embraces the ebb and flow of life rather than a frenzied dash toward an imaginary endpoint.

As I pen down these thoughts, the calendar pages flip, marking the end of 2023. The air is filled with a sense of closure as classes conclude, and the anticipation of the holiday season looms. In a foreign land, I anticipate spending the holidays in solitude, delving deep into introspection about the passing year and the one awaiting its turn.

Among the myriad of abandoned tasks that clutter my mental landscape, I ponder a poignant question: if granted the chance to complete just one task, which would stand out as the beacon drawing me toward a sense of fulfillment? It’s a reflective exercise that delves into the essence of prioritization and purpose. In this moment, I believe I have unraveled the threads of my priorities, crystallizing the pursuits that merit my undivided attention in the coming year.

As the snow blankets the landscape, I’ve distilled my ambitions to a select few endeavors that will receive the entirety of my heart and soul. And as I wish for you to embark on a similar journey of focus and dedication, I am acutely aware of the deceptive nature of time. It’s easy to succumb to the illusion that tomorrow holds an infinite supply of moments, but the truth is elusive, reminding us that time is a finite resource, urging us to seize the opportunities before they slip through our fingers.

There exists a palpable fear intertwined with the pursuit of completion. What if the finish line, diligently sought after, reveals itself to be a mere mirage? What if the anticipated fulfillment fails to materialize on the other side? Perhaps, I muse, this is the crux of our journey to transcend the what-ifs, to reach a point where the outcome, be it favorable or adverse, is known with certainty.

As the year draws its final breaths, I extend my optimism toward the canvas of the upcoming year, hoping that, like me, you approach it with a sense of anticipation. It’s easy to get entangled in the web of daily routines and obligations, allowing unfinished tasks to accumulate like neglected artifacts. My wish for you and myself is to confront this clutter, to sift through the remnants of unrealized potential, and to breathe life into the dormant aspirations that linger in the corridors of our minds.

The theme of completion takes me on a nostalgic journey through time. I reflect on the fragments of creativity left scattered, unfinished poems, incomplete stories, and embryonic business ideas. The more I excavate, the more I uncover, revealing a trove of untapped potential waiting to be rediscovered. Yet, beyond the tangible relics of creativity lie the personal and internal odysseys journeys toward healing and self-discovery abandoned but not forgotten.

In the midst of my stay in China, I recognize the gift of time bestowed upon me. It is an invaluable gift, providing the luxury to reshape and refine the essence of who I am. In the silence of this foreign land, I embark on the process of self-crafting, aspiring to bring forth the best version of myself into the world.

The conclusion of my adventure in China remains shrouded in uncertainty, yet my optimism is unwavering. Each day unveils a new layer of experience, fuelling my hope and expectation for the future. I am determined to leverage this gift of time, breathing life into the neglected projects that have gathered dust on the shelves of my aspirations.

A dear friend often remarks, “It’s an exciting time to be alive,” and in agreement, I echo the sentiment. In a world teeming with possibilities, where the tools to create are virtually limitless, the magic lies in directing our focus toward meaningful pursuits. We live in an era where individuals, when aligned with their passions, can manifest extraordinary accomplishments.

As we navigate our lives, we inevitably accumulate a trove of abandoned projects dreams left dormant, endeavors half-realized. I extend a challenge, not just to you but also to myself to unearth these dormant fragments and breathe life into them, to summon the courage to complete what was once set in motion. For within the completion lies the promise of something remarkable, waiting to unfurl its wings and take flight.

So, here’s to the unfinished symphonies, the dormant canvases, and the half-written stories. Let us dust them off, infuse them with purpose, and witness the magic that awaits when we summon the courage to finish what we started. I am optimistic that within this act of completion, we will unlock the extraordinary, and as the chapters of our lives unfold, something amazing is bound to happen.

Until we meet again,

Fred Agaba
